                 Marji Swanson specializes in labor and employment law and local government law.  She represents both private and public employers, including numerous counties, school districts, municipalities, community colleges, park districts, townships, fire districts, other special districts.  Her experience includes advising clients regarding governmental operations, all aspects of labor and employment law including grievance and interest arbitrations, employee discipline, and employee discrimination claims; civil rights matters, employment issues, and litigation before administrative agencies such as the Illinois Educational Labor Relations Board, the Illinois State Labor Relations Board, Boards of Fire and Police Commissioners, The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the Illinois Department of Human Rights and the Illinois Human Rights Commission.

 

                 Prior to joining McKeown Law Firm, she was an associate with a DuPage County law firm specializing in municipal law, school law, and labor and employment law.  In July of 2007, she joined the McKeown Law Firm continuing her practice in those areas.  She advises both private and public employers in all areas of employment law including implementing personnel policies, mitigating risk in employment decisions, counseling on disciplinary actions and investigations, compliance with state and federal employment laws, union and management relations and management training.

 

Education

 

J.D., Chicago Kent College of Law, IIT, 2000.  Marji was a member of the Dean’s List and was accepted into the Litigation Section, clerking for the Law Offices of Chicago-Kent in the area of Employment Litigation.

 

B.S., Political Science, Illinois State University, 1996. Marji was a Distinguished Scholar of the Political Science Department.  While working towards her undergraduate degree, Marji interned with the Legal Department of the Town of Normal, Illinois and was a member of the Mock Trial Team.
