Mr. James B. Harvey is a lifetime resident of
Will County. He graduated from Joliet Catholic High School in 1973 and
from Lewis University with high honors in 1976. Mr. Harvey graduated
from the John Marshall Law School with distinction, where he was a
member of the Order of John Marshall, in 1980.
Mr. Harvey has been practicing municipal and public entity law
for more than 27 years beginning with the City of Joliet Corporation
Counsel’s office, when licensed as a 3rd year law student
under Supreme Court Rule 711. After passing the Illinois bar
examination, he continued to practice with the City of Joliet as an
attorney in the Corporation Counsel’s office.
In 1981, he joined the McKeown Law Firm and has represented
various governmental bodies including the Villages of Plainfield and
Mokena for more than 25 years. Mr. Harvey was appointed by the
Illinois Supreme Court to the Special Supreme Court Committee on
professionalism which was created by the Illinois Supreme Court to
study and recommend ways to promote respectful conduct, courtesy,
integrity, and honesty in the legal profession.
Jim is active in the local community where he currently serves
on the Lewis University Board of Trustees where he is also Chairman of
the Legal and Corporate Committee. Mr. Harvey is the former Chairman
of the Board of Directors of Cornerstone Services, Inc. which provides
comprehensive services for people with disabilities. Mr. Harvey
remains a director of the Board where he has served over 23 years. Mr.
Harvey is also a former member of the Channahon Grade School No. 17
Board. Mr. Harvey is also a volunteer for the Illinois Lawyer’s
Assistance program where he was trained as an intervener to assist
lawyers with substance abuse or mental illness. He is also a former
member of the Will County Bar Association Board of Directors. |
